As a lover of sports, I grew up watching Michael Jordan take the winning shot hundreds of times in his quest with the Chicago Bulls! Trevor Linden making no-look passes in game 7 versus the Rangers in 93. Pete Sampras hitting second serve aces on match point down against Agassi were memories of talents, risks, passions, and outcome immunity!
These great athletes I admired and their careers I followed but my journey in sports was one of being the best tennis player that I could become. I had failed a lot, learned a lot and now I am grateful to share a lot. In my experience here are some simple yet undeniable truths that make tennis such an incredible teacher of our lives.
Truth 1) You will never master tennis so you must always have a beginner's mind!
Truth 2) Being alone on the tennis court is challenging, you must overcome judgment!
Truth 3) Winning is our need to hurry, the real winning is your cultivating patience!
Truth 4) Stick to game plan your process, the destination requires faith, not fear!
Truth 5) Compete but don't ruin your reputation, hold your emotions to a higher standard than winning!
Truth 6) Enjoy practice at every level, respect your partners and demonstrate equanimity!
I encourage everyone to try tennis and appreciate the difficulty, the laughter, the progress and relationships that endure far into the future.
See you on the court, see you on a walk, here's to seeing the best in ourselves each and every day. Share with your friends!!
